Aida Alvarez, Board Member

Aida Álvarez has served as a member of our board of directors since May 2022. Ms. Álvarez is the founding chair Emerita of the Latino Community Foundation and previously served in the Clinton Administration, including as Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, where she was the first Latina to serve in a U.S. President’s Cabinet, and as Director of the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight. Ms. Alvarez has served on the boards of directors of HP since June 2016, of Fastly since August 2019, and of Stride since April 2017. She previously served on the board of directors of Oportun Financial from August 2011 to November 2022, of Walmart from June 2006 to June 2016, of MUFG Union Bank from October 2004 to June 2014, and of PacifiCare, Inc. (now UnitedHealth Group) from November 2003 to July 2005. Ms. Álvarez also sits on the San Francisco Symphony Board of Governors, and the board of the DeYoung and the Legion of Arts museums, and previously served as a commissioner for the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College, and was on the Harvard Board of Overseers. She has honorary doctorates from Bethany College, Iona College, Mercy College and the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico.
